Text
Commentary |
"Line-1:
συνστε[φθεὶς]
indicates that the winner of the competition shared the honor with someone
else. Separate victory inscriptions would have been written for both winners.
Such athletes are called
στεφανῖται or rarely
συνστεφανῖται.
The awarding of a prize jointly to two people in a competition is a frequent
occurrence in the local agon on the southern coast of Asia Minor (Tüner Önen,
2008:347-348).
Line-2: vd. καθῶς τὸ
π[λῆθος
ἐπ]εβοήσατο indicates that
the actual decision was made by the audience, not the jury (Tüner Önen,
2008:347-348)." |
